Thursday 2nd July. Mozambique.
We headed out of town quite early, first of all stopping to get diesel. No diesel available, anywhere in town. We were heading for Chimoio, almost
400kms away and we only had a quarter of a tank. Everywhere we went, it
was the same story. It looked like we'd have to use our 2 jerry cans
that we carry on the roof. Sure enough, we did and used the first one
after about 100kms. That took us 170kms, still no fuel so we used the
next one and that got us into Chimoio just as the reserve light came on.
No fuel here either so we quickly found a hotel. This was a bit of
luxury, a 4 star hotel. The hotel owner told me that the fuel problem
has existed for a few days due to some dispute involving a tanker in the
port of Beira, a few hundred kms away. We met a lot of tankers on the
road so we're hopeful the situation is resolved and we can get fuel
tomorrow.
Tomorrow, we hope to move on to Vilanculos, about 400kms away on the
Indian Ocean coast. We had a nice meal in the hotel restaurant and the
joys of wireless internet allows me to update the blog. Still having a
problem accessing Picasa web Album site so having to wait to find out
what's wrong there.
