Malawi to Tete, Mozambique

Departure day from Malawi.

Wednesday 1st July:   Zomba via Blantyre to Tete in Mozambique:

The hotel last night was really comfortable & the breakfast was great. We were on our way to Blantyre. John cut up a few pieces of shiny dust tape and stuck them on our bull bar. That should fend off any more police. Blantyre was only a couple of hours away & we went in search of a BF Goodrich tyre. No luck at all so we accepted our fate & headed for the Mozambique border.

It took a few hours to get our visa issued, they said we should have got one before arrival. Very nice & friendly though. The Comesa insurance card is not valid in Mozambique so we had to purchase 3rd party insurance at the border. The first guy quoted me $30 for 30 days. However, at an office by customs, Holland insurance issued one for $23. We were through and legal and headed for Tete, the next major town, a few hours away. This is our first time to visit Mozambique,

We crossed the Zambezi just as we were entering town, this time on a major bridge. Last time, John & I crossed it on a rickety old ferry, from Botswana to Zambia. We quickly found a hotel &  the owner took us to a good restaurant a few kms away. People are just so helpful, it just gladdens the soul when you meet such friendly and delightful folk. Off to bed at a decent hour, ready for an early start.
