Monday 16th February
Had
a leisurely breakfast in the guesthouse restaurant which is in fact in a
different location to where we slept. Only a few hundred yards away in
the center of the town and opposite the largest post box in the world.
After strolling
around town, we visited the museum which is in an old synagogue. It was a
fascinating insight into life in the 1800's and thereabout.
Onward
to Uppington was the plan but as we're flexible, we decided to make a
detour to the Augrabies Falls. That was a great decision and we arrived
in the area about 6pm. Still arriving too late to comfortably find
accommodation but the distance covered was almost 500kms. We were
recommended a guest farm called Foxes Lair. The website is
http://www.deoudestoor.co.za/ and if you ever travel this way, you won't find a warmer welcome or more cosy place to rest your head than here.
Cecilia
kindly allowed us to use the internet to check our emails and blog
before we departed. She also recommended a local restaurant called Dundi
Lodge for dinner.
Lamb
shank so succulent it melted in the mouth. These luxuries we are
enjoying because camping and braiing is beckoning along the way, not to
mention a rude awakening when it comes to eating out as we go further
north. The quality will deteriorate rapidly, just as the price will
escalate, as soon as we leave the South African border.
